Dude... is that a house or a lodge for the golf club? True story, it’s been asked. Also true: she doesn't play golf and wants nothing to do with it. Nevertheless, this large but laid-back house backs up to a beautiful course out in Lincoln, Nebraska. Their neighbors? His brother and family. Together, they recruited their (very talented) architect buddy to design both of the homes, then asked if we'd come on board for both projects, as well. Needless to say, we were eager to land the “two for” project(s) but could have toned down our excitement a bit. They were in no hurry and, in time, we came to adopt their "all good" mentality too.
The whole thing felt a bit like work and play. Designing fun family homes with a spectacular team?! Allllll good, indeed, hence the project name and vibe. Because the very talented architect buddy is usually working on large projects like skyscrapers in Abu Dhabi he was accustomed to a much larger scale. (“Donny you’re out of your element!”) So, we worked together to come up with the right spacing for rooms and hallways that would complement the architecture and views, as well as integrate the owners’ personal style. Unlike golf, the game of home construction is not a one-man-sport. But this project was a hole in one.

This is a family of free-spirits. The vibe here is minimalist, you-do-you, with a hint of organization in the mix. Expansive, architectural bones are complemented by simply executed, luxurious finishes and one-of-a-kind pieces with big personality. In the entry, exterior finishes sneak their way in to meet a Bardiglio tile floor and family-heirloom-worthy console. Just across the threshold is a hallway of epic proportions, softened by vintage, one-of-a-kind, colorful runners and a cheeky portrait of a guy with a huge stash.
Top-to-bottom, it's open and inviting, meets intentional, warm and livable. Made for the whole family... and extended family... plus all their friends, too. For all the youngsters (and young at heart), the lower level is the place to be. A huge indoor sport court with an overlooking gaming space, mellow theater room with the largest teal velvet sofa we've ever designed, and walk-out access to the backyard pool and living spaces that are straight from a childhood dream. Like we said... it's all goooood.
