Greenhouse with a Greenhouse

Willowbrook, Illinois

Earthy tones, natural textures, and open space. Thoughtfully curated for bringing the outside in.

AS FEATURED ON AD

Inside out

The anchor of this home is in its material palette: earthy, natural, and organic. Deep greens, rusty oranges, layers of warm brown—colors pulled straight from the landscape surrounding it. Colors, textures, and layout all blur the line between inside and out—the earthy exteriors blend in with the scenery, while generous windows invite the expansive landscape into the interior story.

This is a new build full of character, storied from the very beginning. Before there was ever a house, there was the dream of a greenhouse, that the homeowners ordered before we broke ground. The warm stone walls, rich color choices, and intentionally layered palette are reminiscent of the English countryside. (Another reason we decided to spend the day in the Cotswolds when we visited London as a team: to take in the historic beauty our clients were so enamored with.) During the architectural design phases, the homeowners expressed their vision of beautifully organic shapes and rich textures meeting modern finishes and functionality.

Form meets function

This elegant functionality is woven throughout the home. In the living room, the sofa's moveable back pillows let you face inside, outside, or both. The mud room welcomes the family with a powder room, desk, pantry, and storage. The primary suite carries the project's signature calm: earthy tones, natural materials, spacious but never cold. In the wood-clad den off the kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows open to gorgeous views of the trees. This cozy hideaway is a hard one to leave.

In the kitchen, the stunning marble counter with the built-in Pitt burners takes the spotlight. Meanwhile, the plaster hood surround, earthy cabinet tones, and warm light streaming in softens the space. Through the glass and metal pocket doors, the scullery is where the real work happens: a wall oven, built-in range, extra refrigeration, a second dishwasher and sink stay beautifully organized and tucked out of sight. That way the kitchen stays clean and open for last-minute hosting and everyday life. To top it off, the pantry buzzing with bumblebees adds a playful touch. (A space so sweet it was featured by AD—find the story on our Press Page.)

"From start to finish, the ASC design team was with us from architectural phase to completion, working through intricate details, troubleshooting, problem solving, and executing our vision. We trusted their choices when we couldn’t decide and are so happy with the result."
