Are we biased because we live and office here? Yes we are. Quite. But we shall attempt to keep our description purely objective.
Affluent and wooded, with a charmer of a downtown (again, on the train line – what is our fascination with these commuter ‘burbs?!), Glen Ellyn exceeds the standard cuteness quotient by about 17.83 points. One-of-a-kind boutiques. Tons of not just “good for the suburbs,” but actually good dining options. A bring-your-own-lawn-chair Jazz Fest. July 4th parade. An old brick high school so classic it’s served as a movie set. Annnnd (wait for it) a lake! With a park. And rowboats. And an annual regatta. (Are you trolling the real estate sites yet? We’re feel-y, and we sense this place calling your name.)
It’s one of those secrets so good you can’t decide if you should spill it or keep it on the DL so there’s no stampede of newcomers descending upon the place. Its undiscovered-ness is part of its allure. Up-market, but not too big for its britches, it’s home to everything from a country club to community college. The residential scene is delightfully varied, but consistent in its manicured lawn-ness – and the new builds tend to take their cues from what’s happening on the rest of the block. Projects below. Peruse pronto!
